About Us

Founded in 2024 by the mixologist Riccardo Grechi, The Double Strainer is a digital media brand dedicated to bars, drinks and drinking culture. The main target is to build a robust website about everything linked to the bar industry, mixology, ingredients, cocktail recipes and bar reviews written by people of the industry in order to give an authentic, double strained opinion to our reader. Our coverage extends beyond the site to a variety of social channels, focusing moreover on interviews in order to not give only suggestions about bars but also to instill a sense of curiosity to everybody out there.

Our goal is to capture the ethos that’s driving drink culture forward: the connection of beverage to tradition and place, the passion to innovate and, yes, fun. We also believe that the wine, cocktail, beer and spirits worlds have more in common than they probably realize. We’ve brought them together in order to shine a light on the many places where their values are entwined.

Born in 1986 in Bologna, Italy, he discovered his passion for bartending while helping a friend at his bar. He moved to Kuala Lumpur in 2022 as a head mixologist, creating drink menus for various venues across the city. In recent years, he has served as head bartender in multiple European cities, including Prague (Czech Republic), Korčula (Croatia), Lisbon (Portugal), Warsaw (Poland), and Brașov (Romania).

He graduated as a Bartender from the European Bartender School (EBS) in Milan, Italy, with a further attested qualification in “Advanced Mixology” and “Advanced Bartender Techniques.” He also attended a “Tiki Cocktails Course” in Italy, a “Whiskey Tasting Course” held directly at the Jameson Distillery in Dublin, Ireland, and recently earned a “Certificate in Scotch Whisky” from the Edinburgh Whisky Academy (EWA), accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). Additionally, he expanded his expertise by earning a “Barista Certificate” in Kuala Lumpur, exploring the world of coffee and tea.

 

Riccardo has participated in various competitions and has won numerous awards worldwide, including the Chivas competition, Hennessy’s Global Top 50, the Gajardo competition, the Marini National Contest, and many others.
